The Xoloitzcuintli (or Xoloitzcuintle or Mexican Hairless Dog)!
Really weird to draw the hairlessness. haha!
So I am going to be doing another series of dog breeds. Full body small graphite realism. This time in reverse alphabetical order!! This is for a personal challenge to get used to drawing things I only sort of like. I am also a dog groomer so it's also nice to instill the finer points of breeds in my brain for my work. Drawing them really helps fix it in there. haha! This is my second submission! The Intermediate and Miniature Xolo will be next! And the the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon I think.
Here is the first in the series:
Info: And took 3 or so hours of work.... I didn't count. Took 3-4 sittings in one day. Reference used. 2B and 4B graphite pencils on marker paper.
Like you said, the anatomy is a bit off but still an absolutely stunning drawing of a xolo! I, personally, am fond of this one because I own a standard xolo myself. That said... I OWN one and could not have done anywhere NEAR as good as this! I am around a xolo every day and I could never hope to do something this magnificent.
I didn't think I really liked or disliked them before I dug around for refs for this girl. But I really do love them now!! They can actually be really gorgeous dogs as well as cute.
Mhm, I watched a special on them on Animal Planet, and the government in, I think Florida, was using them to keep inmates at a female jail company, as well as rehabilitate the dogs who were all rescues so that they could find families to bring joy to. That's where I fell in love.
